Importer process
Documents, timings, hold response, broker briefing. Who owns a hold within an hour. Who has the packing list that matches the invoice. Who notices that the tariff setting was copied from a shipment two years ago. Australian Border Force does not owe you a tutorial when the file is dirty. A process that assumes the broker will invent cleanliness is not a process. It is a hope.
Concentration
Single origin, single Australian port, single DC, single carrier contract, single SKU with no substitute. Dual ocean on a lane that already has spare capacity is cheap. A second DC for a regional brand is not. We price the response against the failure, not against a mood. Inventory as a risk tool has a carrying cost. Buffer stock in the wrong node, or that cannot be picked, is not a buffer.
What you receive
A failure list you can actually name. An operating process for holds and documents. A note on which hedges are worth funding and which are comfort purchases. If licensed customs work or legal advice is required, we will say so and stop at the operating edge. We will not impersonate a broker to look complete.
Open this file after a hold has cost you, or before you spend on dual sourcing that you cannot explain. Do not open it if you want a framed ISO certificate. We do not sell frames.
Holds as an operating process
A hold without an owner is a storage invoice waiting for a name. We write who is contacted in the first hour, which documents are pulled, who speaks to the licensed broker, and who tells the warehouse not to send a truck that will wait. Australian Border Force and biosecurity questions have their own clocks. Hoping the broker will invent a complete file on Friday afternoon is how plants run out of materials on Tuesday. We do not lodge. We make the pack fit for the person who does.
Dangerous goods, where they apply, are an origin problem. Declaring them at the dock because the warehouse noticed a diamond is late. Tariff settings copied from a dead SKU are a master-data problem. Commercial invoices that do not match packing lists are a supplier-management problem. Calling all of that customs is how the wrong department gets the complaint. The file names the department.
Hedges you can fund or refuse
Dual origin, dual port, dual carrier, extra inventory, a second 3PL, a second DC. Each has a price. Each answers a different failure. Mixing them in a slide titled resilience is how boards buy comfort. We write the failure, the signal you would see, the person who acts, and the cost of the hedge. If that page cannot be written, do not buy the hedge. If it can, you have a program rather than a poster. We have no warehouse to fill with the buffer you did not need.
Concentration is not always a mistake. A single DC can be the right network. A single carrier can be the right contract. The mistake is not knowing what you would do if that single point failed on a Monday. This file produces that knowledge. It does not produce a certificate you can hang in reception.
